Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the 2 engine cover fasteners.
  3. Remove the 2 engine cover plastic retainers.
  4. Remove the engine cover (1) from the engine.

  6. Remove the ignition coils (1, 2, 3, 4).

  7. Object Number: 244188  Size: SH
  8. Remove the spark plugs.

  9. Object Number: 234138  Size: SH
  10. Rotate the engine to top dead center on the number one cylinder.

  11. Object Number: 234178  Size: SH
  12. Remove the two timing chain tensioner bolts (1, 2).
  13. Remove the timing chain tensioner.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 234392  Size: SH
  1. Release the ratchet pawl.
  2. Fully depress the plunger (4).
  3. Apply the hook (2) to the pin (3).

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the timing chain tensioner into the timing chain cover. Secure the timing chain tensioner using two bolts (1).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the timing chain tensioner bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Rotate the engine approximately one revolution in order to release the plunger on the timing chain tensioner.

  7. Object Number: 244188  Size: SH
  8. Install the spark plugs.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the spark plugs to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  10. Install the ignition coils (1, 2, 3, 4).

  11. Object Number: 621681  Size: SH
  12. Position the engine cover on the engine (1).
  13. Install the 2 engine cover plastic retainers.
  14. Install the 2 engine cover fasteners.
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
