Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Important: In the event deployment has occurred, inspect the steering wheel module coil wire for any sign of scorching, melting, or other damage due to excessive heat. If the coil is damaged, replace it.

  3. Place the front wheels in the straight ahead position.
  4. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

  5. Object Number: 820027  Size: SH
  6. Remove the three screws and the steering column lower trim cover (6) from the steering column.

  7. Object Number: 839654  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil electrical connector (1).

  9. Object Number: 820030  Size: SH
  10. Slide the steering column upper cover, release the 3 claws (2) and remove the steering wheel module coil (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Ensure the front wheels are in the straight ahead position.
  2. Important: Make sure the turn signal switch is in the neutral position or turn signal switch pin may be damaged.

  3. Place turn signal switch in neutral position.
  4. Important: When installing a new steering wheel module coil, remove the lock pin prior to installing the handle.

  5. Install the steering wheel module coil (1), engage all 3 retaining claws (2).
  6. Center the steering wheel module coil, if necessary. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centering in Steering Wheel and Column.

  7. Object Number: 839654  Size: SH
  8. Connect the steering wheel module coil electrical connector (1).

  9. Object Number: 820027  Size: SH
  10. Install the steering column lower trim cover (6). Secure with three screws.
  11. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
