DEFINITION: Always in recirculation position.

1

Did you review the Air Delivery Description and Operation and the Air Temperature Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

Go to Symptoms - HVAC Systems - Manual

2

  1. Start the engine.
  2. Open the instrument panel compartment.
  3. Observe the recirculation actuator while pressing the recirculation switch.

Does the recirculation actuator operate?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

3

Test the fresh/recirculation switch. There should be continuity between terminals 4 and 5 in the recirculation position (switch depressed) and between terminals 4 and 2 in the outside air position (switch not depressed).

Did the switch test OK?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 8

4

Test the outside air signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 5

5

Test the recirculation signal circuit for a short to B+. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 6

6

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the recirculation actuator. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 7

7

Replace the recirculation actuator. Refer to Recirculation Actuator Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?
