Theft Deterrent System

The Theft Deterrent System provides the theft deterrent by sounding a siren and flashing the park lamps when there is an unauthorized vehicle entry or there is tampering detected.

SECURITY Indicator

The SECURITY Indicator on the instrument panel is controlled by the theft deterrent module. The theft deterrent system uses the Indicator to identify system status as follows:

    • Telltale FLASHING -- The system is armed.
    • Telltale ON STEADY -- The system is in delay mode or activated. The system is ready to arm and is executing a time delay of 10 seconds before flashing.
    • Indicator OFF -- The system is disarmed.

Courtesy Lamp (Door Jamb) Switches

The theft deterrent system uses the Courtesy Lamp Switches as one method in order to activate the alarm.

Keyless Entry Module

When the keyless entry module receives a door lock or an unlock signal from the transmitter, the keyless entry module sends a message to the theft module though the multi function alarm module. This message orders the multi function alarm module to perform the appropriate door lock/unlock command. The theft module detects the message and performs one of the following functions:

    • Enters the armed initiated mode
    • Enters the ready to arm mode.

Disarmed State

The theft deterrent system will be in the disarmed state when the ignition switch is in the LOCK (off) position and all the doors are closed. The theft module will request the security Indicator to remain OFF.

Arm Initiated State

The theft deterrent system will be in the arm initiated state when the ignition switch is in the LOCK (off) position, any door opens, and the theft module detects a lock command from the keyless entry module. The theft module will request the security Indicator to remain ON.

Arm Delay State

The theft deterrent system will enter the arm delay state when the ignition switch is in the LOCK (off) position, the theft module receives a LOCK command from the keyless entry module, and all the doors are closed. The theft module will request the security telltale to remain ON for 10 seconds.

Armed State

The theft deterrent system will enter the armed state after the 10 second delay of the arm delay state. The theft module monitors the inputs (listed above) in order to determine whether to activate the alarm or to disarm the system.

Locking the Vehicle Without Arming the System

Use the following procedure in order to lock the vehicle without arming the system:

  1. Close all the doors.
  2. Use the key to lock the doors.

Disarming the System

In order to disarm a system in the arm delay or the armed mode, perform one of the following procedures:

    • Press the door unlock button on the key fob.
    • Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position and then to the OFF position.
    • Use the key in order to unlock one of the doors.

Deactivating the Alarm

In the alarm mode, the following conditions are true:

    • The siren sounds intermittently.
    • The parklamps are flashing.

In order to deactivate a system in the alarm mode, perform one of the following procedures:

    • Use the key in order to unlock one of the doors.
    • Press the door unlock button on the key fob.
    • Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Alarm State Activation

Perform the following steps in order to verify that the system activates the alarm state:

  1. Open a window. Opening the window ensures that you will be able to open the door from the outside using the door lock switch.
  2. Place the system in the armed state.
  3. Reach through the window and unlock the door using the door lock switch.
  4. Open the door.

The system enters the alarm state and the following actions occur:

    • The siren sounds intermittently.
    • The park lamps flash.

Ignition Switch Disarm Function

Perform the following steps in order to verify that the ignition disarm function operates:

  1. Stay in the vehicle.
  2. Place the system in the armed state.
  3. Wait for the SECURITY telltale to flash. The system is armed when the SECURITY telltale flashes.
  4. Cycle the ignition switch from the LOCK position to the RUN position. Return the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  5. Open any door.

Theft Deterrent Customize Parameters (Scan Tool)

The theft deterrent settings can be customized according to the customer preference.

Important:

   • After confirming whether the items requested by the customer are applicable or not for customization, perform customizing operations.
   • Be sure to record the current settings before customizing.
   • Before troubleshooting the theft deterrent system, pay attention because there is a possibility that a function has been disabled by customizing. If the wireless operation does not function, check that the wireless operation has not been disabled by customizing, then perform troubleshooting.

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Connect the scan tool.
  3. Turn the scan tool ON, and select the customize setting for theft deterrent.
  4. Select the setting by referring to the following table:
