Lower Control Arm Replacement AWD

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  3. Object Number: 829791  Size: SH
  4. Remove the 2 bolts (2,3) in order to separate the park brake cable (1) from the lower control arm.

  5. Object Number: 830000  Size: SH
  6. Remove the nut (4) and the stabilizer shaft link stud from the lower control arm.

  7. Object Number: 829795  Size: SH
  8. Support the lower control arm (15) with a jack.
  9. Use paint in order to place match marks on the 2 cams (5,6) and on the lower control arm.
  10. Remove the nut (8) and the bolt (7).
  11. Remove the nut (4) and the cam (5).
  12. Remove the cam bolt (6).
  13. Remove the nut and the bolt in order to separate the shock absorber from the lower control arm.
  14. Remove the nut (1) and the bolt (3).
  15. Remove the 3 bolts (10,11,12) and the lower control arm from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 829795  Size: SH
  1. If you are replacing the lower control arm (15), copy the match marks from the old components to the new components.
  2. Raise and support the lower control arm with a jack.
  3. Important: Do not tighten the nuts or the bolts. The weight of the vehicle must be on the tire and wheel assemblies before tightening the nuts and the bolts.

  4. Install the bolt (3) and the nut (1) in order to retain the lower control arm to the crossmember.
  5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  6. Install the 3 bolts (10,11,12) and the lower control arm to the body.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 65 N·m (47.9 lb ft).

  8. Install the nut (8) and the bolt (7) in order to retain the lower control arm to the knuckle.
  9. Align the match marks and install the cam bolt (6).
  10. Align the match marks and install the cam (5) and the nut (4).
  11. Install the bolt and the nut in order to retain the shock absorber to the lower control arm.

  12. Object Number: 830000  Size: SH
  13. Install the nut (4) and the stabilizer shaft link stud to the lower control arm.

  14. Object Number: 829791  Size: SH
  15. Install the 2 bolts (2,3) in order to retain the park brake cable to the lower control arm.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5.4 N·m (47.79 lb in).

  17. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Bounce the rear of the vehicle in order to stabilize the suspension.

  20. Object Number: 829795  Size: SH
  21. With the weight of the vehicle on the tire and wheel assemblies, tighten the nut (1) and the bolt (3).
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the nut and the bolt to 74 N·m (54.6 lb ft).

  23. Tighten the nut and the bolt on that retain the shock absorber to the lower control arm.
  24. Tighten
    Tighten the nut and the bolt to 140 N·m (103.3 lb ft).

  25. Align the match marks and tighten the nut (4) the bolt (6).
  26. Tighten
    Tighten the nut and the bolt to 74 N·m (54.6 lb ft).

  27. Tighten the nut (8) and the bolt (7).
  28. Tighten
    Tighten the nut and the bolt to 74 N·m (54.6 lb ft).

  29. Tighten the nut and the stabilizer shaft link stud.
  30. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 44 N·m (32.5 lb ft).

  31. Measure the wheel alignment. Adjust if necessary. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement in Wheel Alignment.
