03-05 Pontiac Vibe GT with a VIN L 1.8 L Engine - High RPM Power Loss after a Cold Start - kw high RPM LNK low no performance

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.

High RPM power loss until normal engine operating temperature is obtained.

This may be a normal concern. When the Vibe GT 1.8L (VIN L - LNK) engine is cold, engine speed is limited to 7,200 RPM. This reduces engine wear and exhaust emissions. Once the engine reaches operating temperature, the maximum engine speed of 8,300 RPM is available. If this is the only concern noted, no repairs should be attempted since it is a normal operating characteristic of this engine.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.
