Subject: A/C Recirculation Button Sticking

Models:2003-2007 Pontiac Vibe

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

The HVAC recirculation switch sticks in. The button will push in, but will not release when pressed a second time. The button will only disengage when the mode is switched to defrost. The "effective" cable length is too long causing the switch to bind and not disengage the recirculation button when depressed. The "effective" cable length is the length of the cable in the switch housing. The Supplier is currently looking into releasing a separate cable or changing the part.

Recommendation/Instructions:

For now the cable can be disassembled from the HVAC control head and shortened by trimming the cable edge by 2mm (edge that contacts the fan mode position control).

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
