Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  3. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  4. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Remove the right side lower engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side in Body Front End.
  6. Remove the left side lower engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Left Side in Body Front End.
  7. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  8. On LV6 engine, remove the water pump pulley.

  9. Object Number: 233552  Size: SH
  10. On all engines, remove the following components from the vehicle:
  11. • The 6 water pump bolts (1, 2)
    • The water pump
  12. Remove the O-ring from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 233552  Size: SH
  1. Install a new O-ring to the vehicle.
  2. Install the water pump to the vehicle.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Use 6 bolts (1, 2) in order to secure the water pump.
  5. Tighten

        • On LV6 engine, tighten the water pump bolts (1) to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
        • Tighten the water pump bolts (2) to 11 N·m (8 lb ft).
        • On LNK engine, tighten the water pump bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
  6. Install the left side lower engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Left Side in Body Front End.
  7. Install the right side lower engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side in Body Front End.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. On LV6 engine, install the water pump pulley.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  11. On all engines, install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  12. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  13. Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  14. Connect the negative battery cable.
  15. Use approved engine coolant in order to fill the radiator. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  16. Start the engine.
  17. Inspect the system for leaks.
