Removal Procedure
- Release the park brake.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
- Remove the drum.
- If the drum does not remove easily, then complete the following steps:
| 5.1. | Remove the rear brake adjuster access hole plug. |
| 5.2. | Insert a screwdriver through the hole in the backing plate. Hold the brake shoe adjuster actuator away from the park brake lever strut. |
| 5.3. | Reduce the brake shoe adjustment by turning the park brake lever strut with another screwdriver. |
| 5.4. | Remove the drum. |
Installation Procedure
- Adjust the drum brakes if necessary. Refer to Drum Brake Adjustment .
- Install the drum.
- Install the tire and wheel assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Apply the park brake.
- Release the park brake.
