Catalytic Converter Replacement LV6 Engine
Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Remove the Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 (HO2S2). Refer to
Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement
.
- Remove the bolts securing the front pipe to the three-way catalytic converter (TWC).
Remove the bolt and clamp securing the TWC to the muffler/tail
pipe assembly.
- Remove the hangers from the rear of the TWC (2).
- Remove the TWC from the vehicle.
- Clean the gasket and seal mating surfaces.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the TWC to the vehicle.
- Install the hangers to the rear of the TWC (2).
- Install the bolts securing the TWC to the front pipe.
Tighten
Tighten the TWC to front pipe bolts to 43 N·m (32 lb ft).
- Install the bolt and clamp securing the TWC to the muffler/tail pipe assembly.
Tighten
Tighten the TWC to muffler/tail pipe assembly bolt to 32 N·m (24 lb ft).
- Install the HO2S2. Refer to
Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement
.
- Lower the vehicle.
Catalytic Converter Replacement LNK Engine
Removal Procedure
- Remove the Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 (HO2S2). Refer to
Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement
in Engine Controls -
1.8L (LV6) or
Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement
in Engine Controls - 1.8L (LNK).
- Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to

- Remove the bolts securing the front pipe
to the Three-Way Catalytic Converter (TWC).
- Remove the bolts securing the Three-Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) to the
muffler/tail pipe assembly.
- Remove the hangers from the TWC (2).
- Remove the TWC from the vehicle.
- Clean the gasket and seal mating surfaces.

Tighten
Tighten the TWC to muffler/tail pipe assembly bolt to 32 N·m (24 lb ft).
- Install the bolts securing the front pipe to the Three-Way Catalytic Converter
(TWC).
Tighten
Tighten the TWC to front pipe bolts to 43 N·m (32 lb ft).
- Install the Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 (HO2S2). Refer to
Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement
in Engine Controls -
1.8L (LV6) or
Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement
in Engine Controls - 1.8L (LNK).
- Lower the vehicle.
