Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the rear disc. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.

  2. Object Number: 818026  Size: SH
  3. Remove the return springs (1,2).

  4. Object Number: 818033  Size: SH
  5. Remove the tension spring (1).

  6. Object Number: 817998  Size: SH
  7. Separate the adjuster (15) from the front brake shoe (17).
  8. Remove the hold-down spring (16) and the pin (1) from the front shoe.
  9. Remove the front shoe.
  10. Separate the adjuster from the rear brake shoe (8).
  11. Remove the adjuster and the adjuster strut (7).
  12. Disassemble the adjuster (10,11,15)
  13. Remove the hold-down spring (9) and the pin (2) from the rear shoe.
  14. Separate the rear shoe from the park brake shoe lever (6).
  15. Remove the rear shoe.

  17. Remove the park brake shoe lever (2) from the park brake cable (1).
  18. Inspect the park brake hardware. Refer to Park Brake Hardware Inspection .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 818011  Size: SH
  1. Apply Lubriplate® Lubricant, GM P/N 1050109 (Canadian P/N 5264008), or the equivalent, to the metal contact points on the following components:
  2. • The backing plate (1)
    • The park brake shoe lever (2)
    • The adjuster strut (3)
    • The adjuster (4,5,6)
  3. Assemble the adjuster.

  5. Install the park brake shoe lever (2) to the park brake cable (1).

  6. Object Number: 817998  Size: SH
  7. Install the park brake shoe lever (6) and the rear shoe (8).
  8. Install the pin (2) and the hold-down spring (9) to the rear shoe.
  9. Install the adjuster (10,11,15) and the adjuster strut (7) to the rear shoe.
  10. Install the front shoe (17).
  11. Install the pin (1) and the hold-down spring (16) to the front shoe.
  12. Connect the adjuster to the front shoe.

  14. Install the tension spring (1).

  15. Object Number: 818026  Size: SH
  16. Install the return springs (1,2).
  17. Install the rear disc. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  18. Adjust the park brake. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
