Disabling Zone 1

  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

  3. Object Number: 828109  Size: SH

    Important: With the SIR fuse removed and the ignition switch in the ON position, the AIR BAG warning indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate a SIR system malfunction.

  4. Locate and remove the AM2 Fuse from the junction block (1), which is located near the base of the steering column.
  5. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.

  7. Locate the front end sensor - right electrical connector (1).
  8. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the front end sensor - right connector.
  9. Remove the front end sensor - right electrical connector (1) from the front end sensor - right (2).

  11. Open front hood, and locate the front end discriminating sensor - left electrical connector (1).
  12. Remove the CPA from the front end sensor - left connector.
  13. Remove the front end sensor - left electrical connector (1) from the front end sensor - left (2).

Enabling Zone 1

  1. Connect the front end sensor - left electrical connector (1) from the front end sensor - left (2).
  2. Connect the CPA from the front end sensor - left connector.

  3. Object Number: 1462767  Size: SH
  4. Connect the front end sensor - right electrical connector (1) from the front end sensor - right (2).
  5. Connect the CPA from the front end sensor - right connector.
  6. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.

  7. Object Number: 828109  Size: SH
  8. Install the AM2 Fuse into the junction block (1).
  9. Use caution while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  10. The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF.
  11. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle if the AIR BAG warning indicator does not operate as described. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information.
