Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution in the Preface section.

    Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Use a siphon in order to remove half of the brake fluid from the reservoir.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  4. Place a container below the brake hose in order to catch the brake fluid.

  5. Remove the front brake hose fitting (2) and the washer from the caliper.

    6. Object Number: 817174 Size: SH
  6. Remove the caliper bolts (1,2).
  7. Remove the caliper from the caliper bracket.

Inspection Procedure
  1. Inspect the disc brake mounting and hardware components. Repair or replace parts as necessary. Refer to Front Disc Brake Mounting and Hardware Inspection .
  2. Inspect the caliper. Repair or replace parts as necessary. Refer to Brake Caliper Inspection .

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 817140 Size: SH
  1. Ensure the caliper slide pins (17, 21) are lubricated with lithium soap base glycol grease or Silicone Brake Lubricant, GM P/N 89021536, ACDelco P/N 89021537 (Canadian P/N 89021538), or equivalent. If necessary, refer to Front Disc Brake Hardware Replacement .

    2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  2. Install the caliper (10) to the caliper bracket (14).
  3. Install the caliper bolts (11,18).

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 34.3 N·m (25.30 lb ft).

  4. Install a NEW washer (1) to the flexible hose lock hole in the caliper.
  5. Install the brake hose (3) to the caliper.
  6. Install the brake hose fitting (2).

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 29 N·m (21.4 lb ft).

  7. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  8. Lower the vehicle.

    9. Caution: Do not move the vehicle until a firm brake pedal is obtained. Failure to obtain a firm pedal before moving vehicle may result in personal injury.

  9. With the engine OFF, gradually apply and release the brake pedal several times in order to position the caliper pistons and the brake pads.
  10. Fill the master cylinder reservoir. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling .
  11. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
