Rear Brake Hose Replacement Drum Brakes

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

  3. Object Number: 880321  Size: SH
  4. Clean the brake hose (1) and the 2 fittings (3, 6).
  5. Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution in the Preface section.

    Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice in the Preface section.

  6. Loosen the 2 fittings.
  7. Remove the 2 brake hose retainers (4, 5).
  8. Remove the brake hose from the brake pipes (2, 7).
  9. Install caps or plugs to the brake pipe fittings in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 880321  Size: SH
  1. Remove the caps or plugs from the brake pipes (2, 7).
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the brake hose (1) and the 2 retainers (4, 5) to the brake pipes (2, 7).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the fittings to 15.2 N·m (11.21 lb ft).

    Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Caution in the Preface section.

    Notice: Refer to Filling the Master Cylinder Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
  6. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  7. Lower the vehicle.

Rear Brake Hose Replacement Disc Brakes

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  3. Object Number: 881830  Size: SH
  4. Clean the brake hose (1) and the 2 fittings (3,5).
  5. Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution in the Preface section.

    Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice in the Preface section.

  6. Loosen the fitting (3).
  7. Remove the brake hose retainer (4).
  8. Remove the brake hose from the brake pipe (2).
  9. Install a cap or a plug to the brake pipe fitting in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
  10. Remove the fitting (5) from the caliper.
  11. Remove the brake hose from the caliper.
  12. Remove and discard the brake hose gasket.
  13. Install a cap or a plug to the caliper in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove the cap or the plug from the caliper.

  2. Object Number: 881830  Size: SH
  3. Install the following components to the caliper:
  4. • A NEW brake hose gasket
    • The fitting (5)
    • The brake hose (1)

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Tighten the fitting.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 29 N·m (21.4 lb ft).

  7. Remove the cap or the plug from the brake pipe (2).
  8. Install the brake hose and the retainer (4) to the brake pipe.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 15.2 N·m (11.21 lb ft).

    Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Caution in the Preface section.

    Notice: Refer to Filling the Master Cylinder Notice in the Preface section.

  10. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
  11. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
