Removal Procedure

  1. Complete the following steps in order to remove the park brake cable from the right rear brake:
  2. • If the vehicle has rear drum brakes, remove the shoes and the hardware. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
    • If the vehicle has rear disc brakes, remove the park brake shoes and the hardware. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .
  3. Remove the bolt and the park brake cable from the right rear backing plate.
  4. If the vehicle has front-wheel drive, complete the following steps:
  5. 3.1. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement .
    3.2. Remove the 3 nuts and the front floor forward heat shield.
    3.3. Remove the 2 nuts and the front floor center heat shield.
    3.4. Remove the 5 bolts and the fuel tank shield.
    3.5. If the vehicle has Antilock Brake System (ABS), separate the ABS harness from the right rear clamp.
  6. Remove the 4 bolts from the 4 clamps.

  7. Object Number: 853219  Size: SH
  8. Remove the right rear park brake cable (6) from the equalizer (8).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 853219  Size: SH
  1. Install the right rear park brake cable (6) to the equalizer (8).
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the 4 bolts in order to retain the 4 clamps.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5.4 N·m (47.79 lb in).

  5. If the vehicle has front-wheel drive, complete the following steps:
  6. 3.1. If the vehicle has ABS, install the ABS harness to the right rear clamp.
    3.2. Install the fuel tank shield and the 5 bolts.
    3.3. Install the front floor center heat shield and the 2 nuts.
    3.4. Install the front floor forward heat shield and the 3 nuts.

    Tighten
    Tighten the nuts and the bolts to 5.5 N·m (48.68 lb in).

    3.5. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement .
  7. Install the park brake cable and the bolt to the right rear backing plate.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 7.8 N·m (69.04 lb in).

  9. Complete the following steps in order to install the park brake cable to the right rear brake:
  10. • If the vehicle has rear drum brakes, install the shoes and the hardware. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
    • If the vehicle has rear disc brakes, install the park brake shoes and the hardware. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .
  11. Inspect the park brake lever travel. Adjust as necessary. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
