The 2nd brake control solenoid is located in the control valve body of the transmission. The powertrain control module (PCM) turns the 2nd brake solenoid ON or OFF, this controls the application or release of the reverse clutch, which in turn reduces shift shock between transmission shift points.
When the PCM detects a continuous short to ground in the 2nd brake control solenoid circuit, then DTC P0787 sets. DTC P0787 is a type A DTC.
PCM detects a short in the solenoid circuit 4 times.
DTC P0787 sets when either of the following conditions occurs:
The PCM detects a short to ground in the solenoid circuit when the solenoid is commanded ON/OFF.
• | At the time of the first failure, the PCM records the operating conditions when the Conditions for Setting the DTC are met. The PCM stores this information as a Failure Record. |
• | The PCM illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) during the first consecutive drive trip in which the Conditions for Setting the DTC are met. |
• | The PCM stores DTC P0787 in PCM history. |
• | A scan tool can clear the MIL/DTC. |
• | The PCM clears the DTC from PCM history if the vehicle completes 40 warm-up cycles without an emission related diagnostic fault occurring. |
