Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
Important: In the event deployment has occurred, inspect the steering wheel module coil
wire for any sign of scorching, melting, or other damage due to excessive heat.
If the coil is damaged, replace it.
- Place the front wheels in the straight ahead position.
- Remove the steering wheel from the steering column. Refer to
Steering Wheel Replacement
in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Remove the three screws and the steering column lower trim cover (6) from the
steering column.
- Disconnect the steering wheel module coil
electrical connector (1).
- Slide
the steering column upper cover, release the 3 claws (2) and remove the steering
wheel module coil (1).
Installation Procedure
- Ensure the front wheels are in the straight ahead position.
Important: Make sure the turn signal switch is in the neutral position or turn signal
switch pin may be damaged.
- Place turn signal switch in neutral position.
Important: When installing a new steering wheel module coil, remove the lock pin prior
to installing the handle.
- Install
the steering wheel module coil (1), engage all 3 retaining claws (2).
- Center the steering wheel module coil, if necessary. Refer to
Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centering
in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Connect the steering wheel module coil electrical
connector (1).
- Install the steering column lower trim cover (6). Secure with three screws.
- Install the steering wheel. Refer to
Steering Wheel Replacement
in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
