This DTC identifies a malfunction within the passenger presence system (PPS) module. If the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) detects a malfunction within the PPS module, a DTC will be set.
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:
DTC B1795 Passenger Presence System Sensor Circuit
Ignition 1 voltage is within the normal operating voltage range.
The SDM detects a PPS module malfunction.
The SDM commands the AIR BAG indicator ON.
The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists and the scan tool Clear DTCs function is used.
Thoroughly inspect the wiring and the connectors. An incomplete inspection of the wiring and the connectors may result in a misdiagnosis, causing a part replacement with the reappearance of the malfunction.
The following are possible causes of the malfunction:
• | An open or high resistance in the PPS module ignition positive voltage circuit |
• | A short to ground in the PPS module ignition positive voltage circuit |
• | An open or high resistance in the PPS module ground circuit |
• | An internal PPS module malfunction |
If an intermittent malfunction exists, refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections .
The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.
This step tests the PPS module ignition positive voltage circuit.
This step tests the PPS module ground circuit.
