Ensure the timing marks (1) on the camshaft
gears and the line on the phaser body (2) are aligned with the yellow links (3) on
the timing chain.
Remove the front camshaft journal cap (1),
to access the internal camshaft oil galleys.
To expose the oil galley (1), needed to
unlock the internal actuator lock pin, rotate the engine until the no. 1 intake cam
lobes face down (2).
Loosen the cam actuator retaining bolt two turns, then ensure the actuator is
unseated from the intake camshaft.
Apply shop air to the oil galley (1).
While applying air pressure to the oil galley
(1), turn the camshaft (2), backwards and forwards until the locking pin releases
and the camshaft moves toward the from the engine.
When the actuator releases, hold the camshaft (1),
and tighten the camshaft actuator sprocket bolt to specification to prevent the actuator
from locking.
Tighten Tighten the camshaft actuator sprocket bolt to 55 N·m
(40 lb ft).
