Removal Procedure
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
- Place the front wheels in the straight ahead position.
- Remove the steering wheel from the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
- Remove the 3 screws and the steering column lower trim cover (6) from the steering column.
- Disconnect the steering wheel module coil electrical connector (1).
- Disconnect the steering wheel position sensor electrical connector.
- Slide the steering column upper cover, release the 3 claws (2) and remove the steering wheel module coil (1).
- Remove the steering wheel position sensor from the steering wheel module coil.
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.
Installation Procedure
- Ensure the front wheels are in the straight ahead position.
- Place the turn signal switch in the neutral position.
- Install the steering wheel position sensor to the steering wheel module coil.
- Install the steering wheel module coil (1) and engage all 3 retaining claws (2).
- Center the steering wheel module coil, if necessary. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centering .
- Connect the steering wheel position sensor electrical connector.
- Connect the steering wheel module coil electrical connector (1).
- Install the steering column lower trim cover (6). Secure with 3 screws.
- Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
Important: Make sure the turn signal switch is in the neutral position or turn signal switch pin may be damaged.
Important: When installing a new steering wheel module coil, remove the lock pin prior to installing the handle.
