The Theft Deterrent System provides the theft deterrent by sounding a siren and flashing the park lamps when there is an unauthorized vehicle entry or there is tampering detected.
The SECURITY Indicator on the instrument panel is controlled by the theft deterrent module. The theft deterrent system uses the Indicator to identify system status as follows:
• | Telltale FLASHING -- The system is armed. |
• | Telltale ON STEADY -- The system is in delay mode or activated. The system is ready to arm and is executing a time delay of 10 seconds before flashing. |
• | Indicator OFF -- The system is disarmed. |
The theft deterrent system uses the Courtesy Lamp Switches as one method in order to activate the alarm.
When the keyless entry module receives a door lock or an unlock signal from the transmitter, the keyless entry module sends a message to the theft module though the multi function alarm module. This message orders the multi function alarm module to perform the appropriate door lock/unlock command. The theft module detects the message and performs one of the following functions:
• | Enters the armed initiated mode |
• | Enters the ready to arm mode. |
The theft deterrent system will be in the disarmed state when the ignition switch is in the LOCK (off) position and all the doors are closed. The theft module will request the security Indicator to remain OFF.
The theft deterrent system will be in the arm initiated state when the ignition switch is in the LOCK (off) position, any door opens, and the theft module detects a lock command from the keyless entry module. The theft module will request the security Indicator to remain ON.
The theft deterrent system will enter the arm delay state when the ignition switch is in the LOCK (off) position, the theft module receives a LOCK command from the keyless entry module, and all the doors are closed. The theft module will request the security telltale to remain ON for 10 seconds.
The theft deterrent system will enter the armed state after the 10 second delay of the arm delay state. The theft module monitors the inputs (listed above) in order to determine whether to activate the alarm or to disarm the system.
Use the following procedure in order to lock the vehicle without arming the system:
