The tire pressure monitor (TPM) system warns the driver when a significant loss, or gain of tire pressure occurs in any of the 4 tires.

The system uses the instrument panel cluster (IPC), tire pressure control module, tire pressure receiver module, a radio frequency (RF) transmitting pressure sensor in each wheel/tire assembly, and the serial data circuit to perform the system functions. Each sensor has an internal power supply.

The sensor measures the tire pressure. The measured value and transmitter ID are transmitted to the tire pressure receiver module and then sent to the tire pressure control module. If the sensor ID has already been registered, the control module compares the measured tire pressure value with the specified value. When the value is less than the specified value registered in the control module, the tire pressure warning light on the IPC will illuminate.

The tire pressure warning light turns on for 3 seconds then goes Off after the ignition is turned On.
