Generator Replacement 1.4L/1.5L SOHC and 1.4L/1.6L DOHC

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector from the air intake tube.



3. Remove the breather tube clamp and all other clamps to remove the air intake tube.



4. Remove the battery harness connector nut from the generator.



5. Remove the generator shackle bracket bolt.



6. Remove the serpentine accessory drive belt. For vehicles equipped with power steering and air conditioning.



7. Remove the nuts which hold the generator lower bracket-to-generator bolts.
8. Carefully remove the generator.

1. Install the generator at the generator lower bracket and insert the generator bolts.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

2. Install the nut and the washers on the generator lower bracket-to-generator bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the generator lower bracket-to-generator nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).




3. Install the generator and the lower support bracket assembly to the engine block with the bolts.
4. Secure the generator to the shackle bracket with the bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the generator shackle bracket bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).




5. Connect the harness connector to the back of the generator.
6. Install the generator lead to the battery and fasten the lead with the nut.

Tighten
Tighten the generator battery lead nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).




7. Install the air intake tube and the connector.



8. Install the IAT electrical connector to the air intake tube.
9. Connect the negative battery cable.

Generator Replacement 1.2L SOHC

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the generator battery lead connector nut (1) to disconnect the battery positive lead.
3. Disconnect the generator harness connector (2).



4. Loosen the generator-adjusting bolt (1).
5. Remove the generator drive belt.
6. Remove the lower bracket-to-generator bolt and nut (2).



7. Remove the engine mounting lower bracket, attaching reaction rod bolt and nut (3).
8. Remove the engine mounting lower bracket mounting bolts (1).
9. Remove the engine mounting lower bracket (2).



10. Remove the generator-adjusting bolt (1).
11. Carefully remove the generator (2).

1. Install the engine mounting lower bracket (2).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

2. Install the engine mounting lower bracket mounting bolts (1).

Tighten
Tighten the engine mounting lower bracket bolts to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

3. Install the engine mount reaction rod mounting bolt and nut (3).

Tighten
Tighten the engine mount lower bracket, attaching reaction rod bolt and nut to 83 N·m (61 lb ft).




4. Install the generator-adjusting bolt (1). Leave loose at this time.
5. Install the generator lower bracket bolt and nut (2). Leave loose at this point.
6. Install the generator drive belt.
7. Adjust the generator so the drive belt is tight.

Tighten

•	Tighten the generator lower bracket bolt and nut to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

•	Tighten the generator-adjusting bolt to 7 N·m (62 lb in).




8. Connect the harness connector to the back of the generator (2).
9. Connect the generator battery lead and install the nut (1).

Tighten
Tighten the generator battery lead nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

10. Inspect the generator drive belt tension.
