- Apply J 36850
to
the new fluid pump seal.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the fluid
pump assembly (2) onto transaxle case. Secure with the six bolts.
Tighten
Tighten fluid pump bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Measure the input shaft
end play using a J 7872
.
• | Place the J 7872
on
the end of the input shaft and gently move the input shaft up and down using
2 screwdrivers. Observe the J 7872
. |
• | Verify that the input shaft end play falls within 0.3-0.9 mm
(0.012-0.035 in). |
• | If the input shaft does not fall within specification, replace
the forward clutch outer bearing race on the end of the fluid pump stator
shaft with a suitable size race. |
• | The following are the 2 available forward clutch outer
race sizes: 0.8 mm (0.031 in) and 1.4 mm (0.055 in). |
- Install the differential
lubrication seal (1) into the transaxle case (2) .
- Install the differential
assembly (2) into the transaxle case (1).
- Apply RTV silicone sealer GM P/N 1052917, or equivalent, to the
torque converter housing mating surface.
Important: There are two different lengths of torque converter housing bolts. Three
of the seventeen bolts are 35 mm (1.38 in) in length. The remaining
fourteen are 30 mm (1.18 in). Verify that all the bolts
are installed in their correct positions.
- Install the torque converter housing (3) onto the transaxle case.
Secure the housing assembly with the seventeen bolts (2).
Tighten
Tighten the torque converter housing bolts to 29 N·m (21 lb ft).
