L91 Oil Leak at Front of Engine, May be Caused by Oil Pump Gasket (Replace Original Oil Pump Gasket with Metal Reinforced Gasket)

This bulletin is being revised to provide additional information in a Notice statement on the use of Engine Sealant (RTV). Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 07-06-01-012 (Section 06 -- Engine/Propulsion System).

Notice: DO NOT use RTV when installing the oil pump gasket. For the oil pan, apply a 3mm diameter bead of sealant (refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 05-06-01-010A. Do not use excessive RTV when installing the oil pan. RTV squeeze out may clog the oil pump pick-up screen, resulting in oil starvation and non-warranty engine damage.

Some customers may comment on a engine oil leak at the front of the engine. The oil pump to engine block gasket may leak near the top of the oil pump resulting in an oil leak that spreads oil on the front of the engine and the oil pump. Technicians may misdiagnose the source of the leak and incorrectly replace the oil pump along with the oil pump gasket because they cannot determine the exact location of the oil leak.

The oil pump gasket may develop a crack that is not able to withstand high oil pressure.

Notice: The original SI information specified the use of RTV when replacing the gasket. RTV is not to be used with the new metal insert gasket.

Replace the original oil pump gasket with the new improved metal reinforced gasket part number 90573301. DO NOT do the following:
