Circuit/System Description

Intermittent, park, and washer wipers are all low speed wiper motor functions controlled through the wiper relay integrated in the IP fuse block. During intermittent and wash operation the switch signals are inputs to the wiper relay. Whenever the relay is energized ignition voltage will be supplied from the relay through the windshield wiper switch to the wiper motor low speed circuit.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, verify the low speed windshield wipers operate.

If the windshield wiper low speed function is inoperative, refer to Wipers Do Not Work on Low Speed.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the IP fuse block.
  2. Wiper switch in the intermittent position, test for less than 5 Ω between the ignition circuit terminal 65 and the intermittent switch signal circuit terminal 31.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the intermittent switch signal circuit terminal 31 for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal replace the wiper switch.
  4. If all circuits test normal replace the IP fuse block.

If the windshield wiper low speed function is inoperative, refer to Wipers Do Not Work on Low Speed.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the wiper relay.
  2. Ignition ON wiper switch in the intermittent position, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the intermittent switch signal circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  3. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the intermittent switch signal circuit terminal 1 for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal replace the wiper switch.
  4. If all circuits test normal replace the wiper relay.
