    • J 23653-SIR Steering Column Lock Plate Compressor
    • J 42137 Steering Column Lock Plate Compressor Adapter

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 371185  Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  2. Remove the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in SIR.
  3. Remove and discard the bearing retainer using J 23653-SIR and J 42137 .
  4. Remove J 23653-SIR and J 42137 from the steering shaft.

  5. Object Number: 664265  Size: SH
  6. Remove the cam orientation plate (5).
  7. Important: Do not wipe the lubricant off the turn signal cancel cam assembly.

  8. Remove the turn signal cancel cam assembly (4).
  9. Remove the upper bearing spring (3).
  10. Remove the upper bearing inner race seat (2).
  11. Remove the inner race (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 664265  Size: SH
  1. Install the inner race (1).
  2. Install the upper bearing inner race seat (2).
  3. Install the upper bearing spring (3).
  4. Important: The electrical contact of the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly must rest on the turn signal cancel cam assembly.

  5. If replacing the turn signal cancel cam (4), lubricate the new turn signal cancel cam with GM P/N 12377900 (Canadian P/N 10953529).
  6. Install the turn signal cancel cam assembly (4).

  7. Install the cam orientation plate (5).

  8. Object Number: 371185  Size: SH
  9. Install the new bearing retainer using J 23653-SIR and J 42137 .
  10. Remove J 23653-SIR and J 42137 from the steering shaft.
  11. Caution: Improper routing of the wire harness assembly may damage the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. This may result in a malfunction of the coil, which may cause personal injury.

  12. Install the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in SIR.
  13. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
