Subject: | SES Light Due to a P2138 - Possible Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Short |
Models: | 2005 Buick Rainier |
| 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer |
| with 4.2L Engine (VIN S - RPO LL8) |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
On rare occasions, a P2138 DTC may intermittently set at random conditions. Typically, the P2138 will be the only DTC present and it will set shortly after starting the engine or during tip in acceleration. It may also be noted that the APP 1 indicated
percentage is about 5% higher than the APP 2 indicated percentage and that the resting APP 1 indicated voltage is about .1 to .3 volts higher than a known good vehicle.
Recommendation/Instructions:
If the SI diagnostics do not isolate a cause for the above concern, remove the fuel pump module from the fuel tank, compress the fuel pump module by pushing on the top of it, and inspect the light blue circuit for a potential chaff/short on the fuel pump
ground terminal that is on the top of the fuel pump. If a potential chaff/short is noted, replace the fuel level sensor and reposition the fuel level sensor harness as necessary to prevent a repeat occurrence.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
