Garage Door Opener Inoperative One LED

The garage door opener (GDO) is a transmitter operating between 288 and 399 MHz. The GDO has 3 buttons that may be programmed for individual transmitter/receiver combinations to control up to 3 GDOs, security gates, and lighting systems. Each button represents a transmitter code section of the transmitter, which operates separately from any other button, and may be considered a separate transmitter. Battery voltage is provided to the GDO from the powertrain control module (PCM) fuse in the underhood fuse block.

Electrical Information Reference

1. Ignition ON, valet switch OFF (if equipped). Press each button of the GDO one at a time. The LED on the GDO should illuminate with each button pressed.

⇒	If none of the buttons respond, test the battery positive voltage circuit and the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the GDO.

2. Ignition ON, hold the two outer buttons on the GDO until the LED on the GDO stops flashing. Place the Universal Home Remote tester adjacent to the GDO and press each button of the GDO one at a time. The tester should indicate when each button is pressed.

⇒	If the tester indicates that one or more of the buttons does not respond, replace the GDO.

3. Program the GDO with the customers remote. A possible rolling code or incompatibility with the GDO receiver will prevent programming. Refer to www.homelink.com or 1-800-355-3515.

Diagnostic Aids

In circuit/system testing, in step 4, the two outer buttons of the transmitter are pressed and held in order to enter the diagnostic mode so that the transmitter can be used with the GDO tester. The transmitter will complete the following during the process:

1. After 20 seconds, the LEDs will flash indicating all codes are cleared and the default settings are set.
2. After an additional 10 seconds, the LEDs will flash again indicating that the diagnostic settings are now programmed into all three buttons.

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the GDO.
2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit terminal 3 and ground.

⇒	If greater than the specified value, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

3. Ignition ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 1 and ground.

⇒	If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.

4. Ignition ON, hold the 2 outer buttons on the GDO for 30 seconds. Place the J 41540 adjacent to the GDO and press each button of the GDO one at a time. The tester should indicate when each button is pressed.

⇒	If the tester indicates that one or more of the buttons does not respond, replace the GDO.

5. Program the GDO with the customers remote. A possible rolling code or incompatibility with the GDO receiver will prevent programming. Refer to www.learcar2u.com or 1-866-572-2728.
