Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

Go to Step 2

Verify that the daytime running lamps (DRL) defeat feature of the headlamp switch operates properly.

Do the DRL headlamps turn OFF when the defeat mode is applied?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

  1. Ensure that the automatic headlamps are in the DRL mode.
  2. Disconnect the headlamp multifunction switch.
  3. Momentarily connect a fused jumper wire between the DRL defeat switch signal circuit and the ground circuit of the headlamp switch instrument panel (I/P) harness connector.

Do the DRL turn OFF or ON?

Go to Step 6

Test for an open, high resistance, short to ground, or short to voltage in the DRL defeat switch signal circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the body control module (BCM). Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the headlamp multifunction switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Replace the BCM. Refer to Control Module References for replacement, setup, and programming.

Did you complete the replacement?

Replace the headlamp multifunction switch. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?
