J 36796 Clip Zip Clip Removal Tool

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the liftgate window garnish molding. Refer to Rear Window Garnish Molding Replacement .
  2. Remove the liftgate trim panel. Refer to Liftgate Trim Panel Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 749976  Size: SH
  4. Pull the liftgate wiring harness pass-through boot away from the liftgate.
  5. Disconnect the liftgate wiring harness inline connector.
  6. Disconnect the rear washer fluid supply line.

  7. Object Number: 698542  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the rear windshield defogger connectors (2).

  9. Object Number: 749979  Size: SH
  10. Disconnect the electrical connectors (3) from the liftgate module.
  11. Disconnect the license plate lamp connector (1).

  12. Object Number: 749972  Size: SH
  13. Disconnect the liftgate window latch connector (2).
  14. Disconnect the rear windshield wiper motor connector (1).

  15. Object Number: 749977  Size: SH
  16. Disconnect the 2 liftgate power lock assembly connectors (1, 3).

  17. Object Number: 749974  Size: SH

    Important: Note the routing of the liftgate wiring harness prior to removal.

  18. Use the J 36796 in order to release the wiring harness retainers.
  19. Remove the wiring harness from the liftgate.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 749974  Size: SH
  1. Install the wiring harness to the liftgate as previously routed. Ensure that the harness retainers are fully seated.

  2. Object Number: 749977  Size: SH
  3. Connect the 2 liftgate power lock assembly connectors (1, 3).

  4. Object Number: 749972  Size: SH
  5. Connect the rear windshield wiper motor connector (1).
  6. Connect the liftgate window latch connector.

  7. Object Number: 749979  Size: SH
  8. Connect the license plate lamp connector (1).
  9. Connect the electrical connectors (3) from the liftgate module.

  10. Object Number: 698542  Size: SH
  11. Connect the rear windshield defogger connectors (2).

  12. Object Number: 749976  Size: SH
  13. Connect the rear washer fluid supply line.
  14. Connect the liftgate wiring harness inline connector.
  15. Install the wiring harness pass-through boot to the liftgate.
  16. Install the liftgate trim panel. Refer to Liftgate Trim Panel Replacement .
  17. Install the liftgate window garnish molding. Refer to Rear Window Garnish Molding Replacement .
