The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some customers may comment that the shift indicator may need adjustment. Prior to replacing any parts, including the shift cable, follow the below instructions to make adjustments to the shift cable and system.
To correct this concern, do not replace the shift cable. Place the shift lever into the Park Position. Raise the vehicle in the air to access the connection of the shift cable at the transmission. Remove the shift cable from the transmission ball stud and be sure that the cable is routed correctly with no twists or kinks. It is then recommended to remove the extra slack out of the cable/adjuster prior to adjusting. This can be done by pulling the adjuster forward and then push back lightly on the adjuster until it fits on the ball stud. Secure the cable to the ball stud after adjusting. Re-evaluate the vehicle for proper operation.
Refer to eSI document 748905 (Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment Procedures) as needed.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
