Subject: | Appearance of Excessive Grease at Front Output Shaft Seal |
Models: | 2007 Buick Rainier |
| 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, Trailblazer SS |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
During Pre-Delivery Inspection, or performing other repairs on a hoist, the presence of a yellow/brown grease may be noted at the front axle output shaft seals. This grease may change color over time or may change to a wet appearance. See picture.
Recommendation/Instructions:
No repairs are needed for this condition. If the quantity of lubricant appears excessive, it can be wiped off. This lubricant was implemented into production starting the week of 9/18/06 and is being used to assure that the installation of the output
shaft does not fold over or damage the lip of the seal. A folded over seal lip can create the high-pitched squeak noise referenced in PIP3718B.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
