Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Bearing Replacement S4WD
Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
- Remove the right wheel drive shaft. Refer to
Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the actuator.
- Remove the wire harness clip from the intermediate shaft bearing assembly.
- Remove the intermediate shaft bearing assembly mounting bolts.
Note: Do not nick or cut the inboard (oil pan) side inner shaft seal.
- Remove the intermediate shaft bearing assembly.
- Remove the actuator from the intermediate shaft bearing assembly.
Installation Procedure
- Install the actuator to the intermediate shaft bearing assembly.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Install the actuator assembly to intermediate shaft bearing assembly mounting bolts and tighten to
6 N·m (53 lb in).
Note: Do not nick or cut the inboard (oil pan) inner shaft seal.
- Install the intermediate shaft bearing assembly to the oil pan.
- Install the intermediate shaft bearing assembly mounting bolts and tighten to
48 N·m (35 lb ft).
- Install the wire harness clip.
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Install the right wheel drive shaft. Refer to
Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.
- Lower the vehicle.

Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
- Remove the right wheel drive shaft. Refer to
Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.
- Remove the intermediate shaft bearing assembly mounting bolts.
- Remove the wire harness clip from the intermediate shaft bearing assembly.
Note: Do not nick or cut the inboard (oil pan) inner shaft seal.
- Remove the intermediate shaft bearing assembly.
Installation Procedure
Note:
• | Do not nick or cut the inboard (oil pan) inner shaft seal. |
• | The intermediate shaft bearing assembly must fit flush against the oil pan in order for the inner axle shaft and the intermediate shaft bearing assembly to be properly installed. |
- Install the intermediate shaft bearing assembly to the oil pan.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Install the intermediate shaft bearing assembly mounting bolts and tighten to
48 N·m (35 lb ft).
- Install the wire harness clip.
- Install the right wheel drive shaft. Refer to
Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.
- Lower the vehicle.
