Battery Positive Cable Replacement LAT
Removal Procedure
Important:
• | Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter and length of the cables that you are replacing. |
• | Always route the replacement cable the same way as the original cable. |
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the starter.
- Remove the positive battery cable to starter motor nut (1).
- Remove the positive battery cable lead (2) from the starter motor.
- Remove the positive battery cable clip (2) from the oil level indicator tube bracket
(1).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Disengage the two side retaining tabs on the positive battery cable cover (1), and open the cover.
- Remove the battery positive cable extension cable nut (2).
- Remove the battery positive cable extension cable lead (3) from the positive battery cable.
- Remove the underhood bussed electrical connector (UBEC) cover (1).
- Loosen the integral bolt (5) on the positive battery cable lead (4) and remove the lead from the UBEC.
- Loosen the positive battery cable nut (2).
- Remove the positive battery cable (3) from the battery.
- Cut, remove and discard the tape (1) securing the positive cable to the negative cable.
- Separate the positive battery cable (4) from the negative battery cable (3).
Important: Note the routing of the positive battery cable assembly prior to removing.
- Remove the positive battery cable assembly.
Installation Procedure
- Place the NEW positive battery cable (4) next to the negative battery cable (3).
- Install NEW tape (1) securing the positive cable to the negative cable.
- Place the positive battery cable assembly into position in the vehicle as noted during removal.
- Install the positive battery cable (3) to the battery.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Tighten the positive battery cable nut (2).
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Position positive battery cable lead (4) to the UBEC and tighten the integral bolt (5).
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 5 N·m (44 lb in).
- Install the UBEC cover (1).
- Install the battery positive cable extension cable lead (3) to the positive battery cable.
- Install the battery positive cable extension cable nut (2).
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Close the positive battery cable cover (1).
- Install the positive battery cable clip (2) to the oil level indicator tube bracket
(1).
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
- Install the positive battery cable lead (2) to the starter motor.
- Install the positive battery cable to starter motor nut (1).
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) to the starter.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
Battery Positive Cable Replacement LZ4
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
- Loosen the positive battery cable bolt and remove the positive battery cable from the battery.
- Loosen the positive battery cable bolt at the junction block and remove the cable from the junction block.
- Remove the positive battery cable clip from the battery tray.
- Remove the tape holding the negative battery cable to the positive battery cable.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
- Remove the positive battery cable nut (3) from the starter solenoid.
- Remove the positive battery cable (1) from the starter solenoid.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the positive battery cable.
Installation Procedure
- Install the positive battery cable.
- Raise and the vehicle.
- Install the positive battery cable (1) to the starter solenoid.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the positive battery cable nut (3) to the starter solenoid.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the positive battery cable to the junction block and tighten the positive battery cable bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the positive battery cable clip (4) to the battery tray.
- Install tape in order to secure the negative battery cable to the positive battery cable.
- Position the positive battery cable to the battery.
- Tighten the positive battery cable bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
Battery Positive Cable Replacement LY7
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
- Disconnect the positive battery cable from the battery.
- Loosen the positive battery cable bolt at the junction block and remove the cable from the junction block.
- Remove the positive battery cable clip from the battery tray.
- Remove the tape holding the negative battery cable to the positive battery cable.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
- Remove the positive battery cable nut from the starter solenoid.
- Remove the positive battery cable from the starter solenoid.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the positive battery cable from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Route the positive cable to the starter and the battery.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Install the positive cable to the starter solenoid.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the positive cable nut to the starter solenoid stud.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 13 N·m (115 lb in).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the positive cable to the junction block and tighten the positive cable bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the positive cable clip (4) to the battery tray.
- Install tape to secure the negative battery cable to the positive battery cable.
- Install the positive cable to the positive terminal of the battery.
- Tighten the positive cable bolt).
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
