Diagnostic Instructions
Circuit/System Description
The driver information center (DIC) switch is a normally open momentary switch. Power is provided to the DIC switch via the instrument panel cluster (IPC) ignition 1 voltage circuit. The IPC ignition 1 voltage circuit is fused in the body control module
(BCM). The switch input to the cluster is pulled low or grounded when a switch is activated. The IPC reads the voltage at the analog input to determine which switch input is pressed. The switch input to the cluster is set up in a resistor ladder format. The
DIC switch includes the INFO and the SET/RESET switch. A simultaneous press and hold of the INFO and SET/RESET switch activates the MENU switch. The MENU switch is the third embedded switch used to activate the various DIC menu.

Circuit/System Testing
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the driver information center (DIC) switch assembly.
- Ignition OFF, test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit terminal 7 and ground.
⇒ | If greater than the specified, test the ground reference circuit for an open/high resistance. |
- Ignition ON, verify that all scan tool DIC Switch parameters are Inactive.
⇒ | If all DIC switch parameters are not Inactive, test the signal circuit terminal 1 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the instrument panel cluster (IPC). |
- Ignition ON, install a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 1 and the ground circuit terminal 7. Verify that all scan tool DIC switch parameters are Active.
⇒ | If not Active, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the IPC. |
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the DIC switch.
