Subject:Intermittent No Crank Along With No Low Speed LAN Communication (Repair Chaffed Wire Behind I/P Cluster)

Models:2007 Saturn Aura

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may complain about a "No Crank" situation. There may also be communication codes along with the inability to communicate with Low Speed LAN controllers (specifically the Theft Deterrent Module controller). The concern may be due to a chaffed wire behind the I/P cluster assembly. There have been cases where the Low Speed LAN wire (ckt 5060) or the B+ wire for the I/P (ckt 1440) have been found pinched between the cluster and the Magbeam in the I/P cockpit assembly.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Repair the effected chaffed wire and tape up the harness. Remove the cluster harness firtree retainer from the cockpit Magbeam. Upon reinstalling the cluster rotate the cluster connector/wire harness clockwise 1 revolution prior to connecting it to the cluster. When installing the cluster, position cluster harness above Magbeam ledge where firtree retainer was removed.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
