Subject: | Driver Front Window operation inoperative after numerous up and down cycles |
Models: | 2007 Saturn Aura |
This PI was superseded to include additional repair alternatives. Please discard PIC4216.
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
The customer may complain that after cycling the window up and down approximately 4 times in a row the window will stop operating. After waiting for approximately 30 seconds the window will start working again, but if cycled up and down again the window will stop operating for a longer period of time. The feature that is causing this is the Thermal Protection Device (TPD). The TPD is software located in the window regulator (not a circuit breaker).
To verify window inoperative concern is due to TPD, remove and reinstall Fuse #50 (Driver Power Window) in the UBEC. By removing and reinstalling this fuse the window regulator TPD software is reset allowing the window to start working again immediately. If the window starts working do not replace any parts at this time and relearn Express Up and Express Down feature using SI document# 1861991 Power Window Re-initialization. If the window still doesn't work then diagnose window operation using SI document# 1861749 Power Windows Inoperative - All.
Important: It is recommended that if you still have a customer complaint of inoperative Drivers power window, then please call General Motors Technical Assistance.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
