The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
A customer may complain the rear speakers sound like they are blown. They may also state there is a rattle or buzz noise coming from the speaker when in use.
The concern can be caused by the joint between the speaker damper and the voice coil bobbin is coming apart. The attached picture (below) shows a damaged speaker damper pulling away from the voice coil bobbin.
Recommendation/Instructions:
If you are able to push down on the speaker damper (ribbed material) and the speaker cone doesn’t move with it, then the speaker is damaged and requires replacement.
Note: Replacement speakers have additional glue at the speaker damper to voice coil bobbin location
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
