Subject:Information on Correctly Setting Tire Pressure at PDI Using Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) System as a Reference

Models:2007-2008 Saturn AURA, OUTLOOK
2008 Saturn VUE

This bulletin is being revised to add the 2008 model year for the AURA and OUTLOOK. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 07-03-16-001A (Section 03 - Suspension).

The purpose of this bulletin is to inform Saturn retailers of the importance of using an accurate tire pressure gauge to correctly set the tire pressures on new vehicles during Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI). Retailers should periodically compare the readings from the tire pressure gauge with the individual tire pressure values from the Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) system to verify tire pressure gauge accuracy.

A review of warranty claims for labor code E0722 (Tire Pressure Indicator Sensor Replacement) indicates that in many cases, the customer concern was resolved by simply adding air to the tire. These claims may be caused by use of an inaccurate tire pressure gauge to set tire pressures during PDI and not verifying the accuracy of the gauge readings.

Retailers should periodically verify the accuracy of tire pressure gauges used during the PDI process by comparing the tire pressure gauge readings to the values in the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) data. The TPM sends radio frequency signals to the RCDLR, which can be accessed by using the Tech 2® scan tool. The individual tire pressures can be found under the data section in the Tech 2® scan tool, using the following menu options: Build Vehicle > Body > Remote Control Door Lock Receiver > Data Display > Tire Pressure Data > Tire Pressure Signal.

Important: Some vehicles may have the individual tire pressure data in the Driver Information Center (DIC), which can also be used to verify tire pressure gauge accuracy. When using this method, the DIC data should be compared to the tire gauge readings prior to making any adjustments in tire pressure.
