Preliminary Procedure

Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.

Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Nut

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tighten
25 N·m (18 lb ft) plus 90 degrees

Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End

Procedure

  1. Use puller J 24319-B to separate the rack and pinion outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
  2. Inspect the steering gear inner tie rod for bent or damaged threads.
  3. Clean the tapered surface of the steering knuckle.
  4. Lubricate the steering gear inner tie rod threads with chassis lubricant. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations
  5. Adjust the front toe. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment.
