Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  3. Using a suitable jack stand, support the lower control arm.
  4. Remove the lower control arm to knuckle bolt and nut. Refer to Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement.

  5. Object Number: 1835320  Size: SH

    Warning: To prevent personal injury and/or component damage, use the proper tools to support the lower control arm when removing the coil spring. The coil spring is under extreme pressure and can become a projectile should the spring separate from the lower control arm before all of the tension is relieved.

  6. Use the jackstand to swing the lower control arm downward with the coil spring attached.

  8. Remove the coil spring (1) from the lower control arm.
  9. Inspect the coil spring upper (2) and lower (3) insulators for damage, replace as necessary.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1835321  Size: SH

    Note: Be sure that the coil spring upper (2) and lower (3) insulators are properly seated prior to installation of the coil spring (1).

  1. Position the coil spring (1) onto the lower control arm.

  2. Object Number: 1835325  Size: SH
  3. Use the jack stand to raise the lower control arm upward into position.
  4. Install the lower control arm to knuckle bolt and nut. Refer to Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement.
  5. Remove the jack stand from under the vehicle.
  6. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Check the rear wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement.
