DTC Descriptors
DTC P1831: Pressure Control (PC)/Shift Lock Solenoid Control Circuit Low Voltage
DTC P1832: Pressure Control (PC)/Shift Lock Solenoid Control Circuit High Voltage
Circuit/System Description
The transmission control module (TCM) high side driver 1 is located inside of the control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly and is not serviced separately. The high side driver 1 provides the voltage for the TCM pressure control
solenoids and shift solenoids. This fault is handled inside the TCM and no external circuits are involved.
Conditions for Running the DTC
P1831
• | The engine speed is greater than 500 RPM for 5 seconds. |
• | Ignition voltage is between 8.6-19.0 volts. |
• | High side driver 1 is enabled. |
• | DTC P1831 has not failed this ignition cycle. |
P1832
DTC P1832 has not failed this ignition cycle.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
P1831
The TCM detects an internal open or short to ground in the high side driver 1 for 0.3 second or greater of a 0.5 second sample.
P1832
The TCM detects an internal short to voltage on the high side driver 1 circuit for 0.3 second or greater of a 0.5 second sample.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
P1831
• | DTC P1831 is a Type A DTC. |
• | The TCM turns OFF all high side drivers. |
• | The TCM turns OFF all solenoids. |
• | The TCM commands maximum line pressure. |
• | the TCM freezes transmission adaptive functions. |
• | The TCM commands the TCC OFF. |
• | The TCM allows the vehicle to operate in transmission protection mode. |
P1832
DTC P1832 is a Type C DTC.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
• | DTC P1831 is a Type A DTC. |
• | DTC P1832 is a Type C DTC. |

Circuit/System Verification
- Ignition ON, clear the DTCs with a scan tool.
- Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running and Setting the DTC. The DTCs should not set.
⇒ | If a DTC sets, replace the control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly. |
- Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
