Removal Procedure

Important: Always perform adjustment at both tie rods. The two tie rods may display a maximum difference in length of 5 mm (0.20 in) after adjustment.

  1. Put the steering in straight ahead position.
  2. Loosen the lock nut (1) at left and right tie rods.
  3. Counterhold at tie rod using open-ended wrench.

  4. Adjust the wheel toe by rotating the tie rod (2).

  5. Object Number: 1940568  Size: SH

    Important:  The nominal value includes a tolerance range, thus permitting a toe-in setting (+ wheel toe) as well as a toe-out (- wheel toe). The tie rods must be set so that either both front wheels point inwards by half of the front toe-in setting, or both front wheels point outwards by half of the front toe-out setting.

  6. For specifications, refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications .

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

    Important: Ensure that the boot on the steering gear is not twisted.

  1. Tighten the lock nuts on both tie rods.
  2. Counterhold at the tie rod using open-ended wrench.

    Tighten
    Tighten the lock nuts to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).

    Important: The steering wheel must be in the straight-ahead position when inspecting by means of a test drive.

  3. Inspect the wheel toe adjustment.
