The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
A technician may comment of poor RKE performance/range.
Recommendation/Instructions:
The RKE range for the Saturn Astra is 15 to 30 feet depending upon vehicle surroundings/location and or the angle of approach. The antenna for the RKE is part of the Steering Column Module (CIM) mounted on the steering column under the steering wheel and is not available separately. When attempting to diagnose a range issue it may be beneficial to test a like vehicle under similar conditions.
The technician should also verify rke battery has adequate voltage/charge.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
