Circuit/System Description

Pressing the liftgate release switch closes a contact providing a ground for the liftgate release switch signal circuit. The rear fuse block will detect the voltage drop and command voltage to be supplied to the liftgate latch assembly which releases the liftgate.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The system voltage must be between 9-16 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The rear fuse block detects a short to ground in the liftgate latch assembly control circuit or an open F38 fuse.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The power door locks and liftgate release will be inoperative.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
    • When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will become a history DTC.
    • A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Diagnostic Aid

These DTCs will set if the F38 fuse is open.

Circuit/System Verification

Command the liftgate latch to release by pressing the liftgate release switch. The liftgate latch should release the liftgate.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the liftgate latch assembly.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  3. Ignition ON, command the liftgate release ON and OFF by pressing and releasing the liftgate release switch. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
  4. If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the rear fuse block.
If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the rear fuse block.
  5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the liftgate latch assembly.

Component Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the liftgate latch.
  2. Install a 20A fused jumper wire between the control terminal 1 and 12 volts. Install a jumper wire between the ground terminal 2 and ground. Verify the liftgate latch activates.
  3. If the latch does not perform as specified, replace the liftgate latch.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
