DTC Descriptor

DTC C0280 00: Stability System Active Too Long

Circuit/System Description

The yaw rate and lateral accelerometer sensor monitors the motion of the vehicle for the EBCM to maintain control and stabilize the vehicle during most driving conditions.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Engine Running

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The yaw rate and lateral accelerometer sensor indicates the vehicle motion needs the vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES) activated, and the EBCM detects either the brakes are not applied for at least 15 seconds, or the brakes are applied for at least 45 seconds during this VSES event.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

One or more of the following actions may occur:

    • The EBCM disables VSES.
    • The driver information center (DIC) illuminates the warning indicator/message.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition for the DTC is no longer present.
    • The EBCM clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Verify that the DTC sets outside of the Conditions for Running and Setting. Since most occurrences of this DTC are caused by excessive driving maneuvers, review with the customer the conditions under which the DTC set.
  2. If the DTC set within the Conditions for Running and Setting, the VSES is operating as designed.
  3. Operate the vehicle within the conditions that the customer experienced and verify the DTC does not reset.
  4. If the DTC resets, replace the yaw rate sensor and lateral accelerometer.
