DTC Descriptors

DTC P0762: Shift Solenoid (SS) 3 Valve Performance - Stuck On

DTC P079A: Transmission Friction Element 1 Slip Detected

DTC P07A2: Transmission Friction Element 1 Performance

DTC P07A3: Transmission Friction Element 1 Stuck On

Circuit/System Description

The transmission control module (TCM) controls shift solenoid 3 valve with an internal driver that pulls the solenoid control circuit to high.

Conditions for Running the DTC

P0762

    • Not in Emergency Mode.
    • Not neutral control.
    • Output speed greater than 250 RPM then the following conditions are met:
       - Not shifting
       - Not undefined transmission range
       - Transmission fluid temperature (TFT) is greater than 10°C (50°F)
       - Shift range equals D, 3, 2, or 1
       - Output speed less than 250 RPM
       - Engine speed is greater than 0 RPM

P079A

    • Not in Emergency Mode.
    • During apply control.
    • TFT is greater than 10°C (50°F).
    • Shift range equals D, 3, 2, or 1.
    • Not undefined transmission range.
    • Pressure control solenoid pressure is greater than 294 kPa (42 psi).

P07A2

    • Not in Emergency Mode.
    • During neutral control.
    • TFT is greater than 10°C (50°F).
    • Shift range equals D, 3, 2, or 1.
    • Not undefined transmission range.
    • Pressure control solenoid pressure is less than 147 kPa (21 psi).

P07A3

    • Not in Emergency Mode.
    • During release control.
    • TFT is greater than 40°C (104°F).
    • Shift range equals D, 3, 2, or 1.
    • Not undefined transmission range.
    • Pressure control solenoid pressure is less than 15 kPa (2 psi).

Conditions for Setting the DTC

P0762

The input speed is greater than the output speed multiplied by the gear ratio plus 500 RPM for 30 seconds.

P079A

The input speed is greater than prior to applying the forward clutch for 0.3 second.

P07A2

The input speed is greater than 400 RPM for 0.6 second.

P07A3

The input speed is less than 400 RPM for 5.0 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

P0762

    • DTC P0762 is a Type A DTC.
    • The transmission will operate in 4th gear in D range, Reverse in R range.

P079A

    • DTC P079A is a Type A DTC.
    • The transmission will operate in 4th gear in D range, Reverse in R range.
    • No neutral control.
    • No N-D control.

P07A2

    • DTC P07A2 is a Type C DTC.
    • No neutral control until vehicle speed is greater than 50 km/h (31 mph).
    • No N-D control.

P07A3

    • DTC P07A3 is a Type C DTC.
    • No neutral control.
    • No N-D control.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • DTC P0762 and P079A are Type A DTCs.
    • DTC P07A2 and P07A3 are Type C DTCs.

Circuit/System Verification

Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data. Ignition ON, observe the DTC information with a scan tool.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Using a scan tool, command shift solenoid 3 ON and OFF. The solenoid should click when commanded.
  2. If the solenoid does not click, replace the shift solenoid 3 valve assembly. Refer to Control Valve Body Assembly Disassemble .
  3. Perform a line pressure test. Refer to Line Pressure Check procedure.
  4. Remove the control valve body cover. Refer to Control Valve Body Cover Removal procedure.
  5. Inspect the inside of the control valve body cover for excessive sediment. There should not be excessive sediment.
  6. If excessive sediment is found inspect and replace as necessary the C1 clutch. Refer to Forward Clutch Assembly Assemble .
  7. Inspect the control valve body assembly for the following conditions. The conditions should not be found.
  8. • Torn or missing shift solenoid valve assembly O-ring seal
    • Stuck U2 shift valve
    • Refer to Control Valve Rear Body Disassemble .
         ⇒If any of the above conditions are found, repair or replace the valve body assembly. Refer to Control Valve Body Assembly Installation , Control Valve Body Assembly Removal procedures.
  9. Verify that the control valve body has been serviced within the past 3 months.
  10. If the control valve body has not been serviced, test or replace the control valve body assembly. Refer to Control Valve Body Assembly Installation , Control Valve Body Assembly Removal procedures.
  11. If all circuits and components test normal, replace the transmission.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
