Diagnostic Instructions

    • Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
    • Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
    •  Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptors

DTC C0287 00: Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor Circuit

DTC C0287 5A: Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor Circuit Plausibility Failure

Circuit/System Description

The longitudinal acceleration sensor ,lateral and the yaw rate sensors are combined into one sensor external to the electronic brake control module (EBCM). The vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES) uses the longitude and lateral accelerometer inputs when calculating the desired yaw rate. The usable output signal is a serial data signal CAN high and CAN low serial data circuits.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

C0287 00

EBCM detects an internal sensor failure.

C0287 5A

EBCM compares the readings from the longitudinal sensor, lateral sensor and the yaw sensor and detects they do not corollate.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The EBCM disables the VSES for the duration of the ignition cycle.
    • The EBCM sends a serial data message to illuminate the warning indicator/message.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition for the DTC is no longer present.
    • The EBCM clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

Diagnostic Aids

A loose or incorrectly mounted sensor can cause this fault.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition On, verify that DTC C0292 is not set.
  2. If the DTC is set, Refer to DTC C0292.
  3. Verify the longitudinal yaw/lateral accelerometer sensor is mounted properly.
  4. If not mounted properly, refer to Vehicle Yaw Sensor with Vehicle Lateral and Longitudinal Accelerometer Replacement.
  5. Replace the yaw/lateral accelerometer sensor. If the DTC resets, replace the EBCM.
