Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the transmission control module (TCM). Refer to Transmission Control Module Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 873343  Size: SH
  4. Remove the positive battery post from the underhood junction block (2).
  5. Disconnect the positive battery cables from the underhood junction block (1).
  6. Disconnect the surge tank inlet hose from the surge tank.

  7. Object Number: 889782  Size: SH
  8. Remove the underhood junction block bracket nuts (1,2).
  9. Loosen the underhood junction block bracket bolt (3).
  10. Disconnect the front wiring harness from the underhood junction block bracket.

  11. Object Number: 888342  Size: SH
  12. Reposition the underhood junction block bracket aside.

  13. Object Number: 780766  Size: SH
  14. Remove the transmission vent cap.
  15. Remove the 17 bolts from the control valve body cover.
  16. Remove the control valve body cover.
  17. Remove the control valve body cover gasket. Discard the gasket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 780766  Size: SH
  1. Install a NEW control valve body cover gasket on the transmission case assembly.
  2. Inspect the control valve body cover for damage.
  3. Install the transmission vent cap.

  4. Object Number: 781248  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the control valve body cover and 17 bolts on the transmission case assembly.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 11 N·m (8 lb ft) in the sequence shown.

  7. Position the underhood junction block to the original mounting.
  8. Install the surge tank inlet hose to the surge tank.

  9. Object Number: 873343  Size: SH
  10. Install the front wiring harness to the junction block bracket.
  11. Connect the positive battery cables to the junction block bracket (1).
  12. Install the positive battery post to the junction block bracket (2).

  13. Object Number: 889782  Size: SH
  14. Install the junction block bracket, bolt and nuts.
  15. Tighten

        • Tighten the nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
        • Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
  16. Install the transmission control module. Refer to Transmission Control Module Replacement .
  17. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
